History
Logo
The company’s name is a combination of the original name, A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) and the last name of entrepreneur Nicola Romeo, who took control of the company in 1915.
Alfa Romeo’s badge incorporates two heraldic devices traditionally associated with its birthplace, the city of Milan.
These are a red cross, from the emblem of Milan, and the biscione, a crowned viper swallowing a Moor—emblem of the House of Visconti, rulers of the city in the 14th century. The badge was originally designed in 1910 by a young Italian draughtsman from the A.L.F.A technical office, Romano Cattaneo
